the education of nature poem

THE EDUCATION OF NATURE.   Three years she grew in sun and shower; Then Nature said, "A lovelier flower On earth was never sown; This child I to myself will take; She shall be mine, and I will make A lady of my own. "Myself will to my darling be Both law and impulse: and with me The girl, in rock and plain, In earth and heaven, in glade and bower Shall feel an overseeing power To kindle or restrain. "She shall be sportive as the fawn That wild with glee across the lawn Or up the mountain springs; And her's shall be the breathing balm, And her's the silence and the calm Of mute insensate things. "The floating clouds their state shall lend To her; for her the willow bend; Nor shall she fail to see E'en in the motions of the storm Grace that shall mould the maiden's form By silent sympathy. "The stars of midnight shall be dear To her; and she shall lean her ear In many a secret place Where rivulets dance their wayward round, And beauty born o...

British India

British India [ edit ] The colonial authorities had a sharp debate over policy. This was divided into two schools - the orientalists, who believed that education should happen in Indian languages (of which they favoured classical or court languages like Sanskrit or Persian) or utilitarians (also called anglicists) like  Thomas Babington Macaulay , who strongly believed that traditional India had nothing to teach regarding modern skills; the best education for them would happen in English. Macaulay introduced English education in India, especially through his famous minute of February 1835. He called for an educational system that would create a class of anglicised Indians who would serve as cultural intermediaries between the British and the Indians. [30]  Macaulay succeeded in implementing ideas previously put forward by  Lord William Bentinck , the governor general since 1829. Bentinck favoured the replacement of Persian by English as the official language, the use ...

Meditation and Mindfulness: Stress Relievers You Should Know

Image
My guest blogger today is Cassie Steele, RN who spent over a decade working as an ER nurse and first responder. She came to cope with stress by meditating and learning to be mindful of her actions and it helped her live a healthier, less stressed life. Her tips might help you too.  Source: Photo by Ben White on Unsplash If work is stressing you out, you don’t need to worry because  meditation  and  mindfulness are great tools to try. Everyone gets stressed out some time but this doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t get some stress relief when everything at work is just a little too much. Too much stress can lead to you figuratively or maybe even literally pulling your hair out. When you’re stressed, it is natural for you not to know what to do first and this can take a toll on your well-being. Stress can also affect your performance at work and may even cause  depression . However, there’s good news, meditation and mindfulness can help you c...

A Brief History of Education

Source: To understand schools we must view them in historical perspective When we see that children everywhere are required by law to go to school, that almost all schools are structured in the same way, and that our society goes to a great deal of trouble and expense to provide such schools, we tend naturally to assume that there must be some good, logical reason for all this. Perhaps if we didn't force children to go to school, or if schools operated much differently, children would not grow up to be competent adults. Perhaps some really smart people have figured all this out and have proven it in some way, or perhaps alternative ways of thinking about  child development  and  education  have been tested and have failed. In previous postings I have presented evidence to the contrary. In particular, in my August 13 posting, I described the Sudbury Valley School, where for 40 years children have been educating themselves in a setting that operates on ass...

The Educational Structure

GRADING SYSTEM Just like American students, you will have to submit your academic transcripts as part of your application for admission to university or college. Academic transcripts are official copies of your academic work. In the U.S. this includes your “grades” and “grade point average” (GPA), which are measurements of your academic achievement. Courses are commonly graded using percentages, which are converted into letter grades. The grading system and GPA in the U.S. can be confusing, especially for international students. The interpretation of grades has a lot of variation. For example, two students who attended different schools both submit their transcripts to the same university. They both have 3.5 GPAs, but one student attended an average high school, while the other attended a prestigious school that was academically challenging. The university might interpret their GPAs differently because the two schools have dramatically different standards. Therefore, there are ...
